Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him. Job 2:11
True and trusted friends are becoming more and more difficult to come by in these times . Many people now get close to others for various reasons but key amongst them is what they will gain out of the relationship. Everyone is looking out for his own self now.
In his good days, Job had a lot of friends but when poverty and disease visited, he was left with only three friends. Even those three had questions marks on their heads… Because they couldn’t wrap their limited minds around what was happening to Job, they jumped to conclusions about its source.
And in defending himself against the bad theology of Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar, Job said things about God that were not true. He began to insist on his own righteousness at the expense of God’s justice. Proverbs 13:23–24
Yes! Job’s friends came to mourn and comfort him when others had left him including his very family, but upon seeing his problems compound for a little longer, Job’s friends weren’t able to endure the mystery of his suffering. They then started putting blames on Job,as the orchestrator of his own problems.
Real friends still exist but how do you get to them?
Can we be there for our friends at all times like Job’s friends? And while we are there, can we do better than what Job’s friends did? By not jumping into conclusions on issues we can’t even fathom?
Sometimes, certain situations and circumstances we go through assists us in distinguishing between the real ones and those made in China.
How many friends do you have? Don’t start counting yet, until you have been through the valleys and still have them stick to you.
A true friend sticks around at all times, both good and bad. This is what the scripture teaches:
Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and THERE IS A FRIEND THAT STICKETH CLOSER THAN A BROTHER.
MAY GOD Connect us to the Proverbs 18:24 kind of friends in Jesus name, amen.
